The card fee is added on top of a card payment, once per payment rather than per month, and it never counts as dues — so nobody's balance drifts because of it. Cash and checks are never charged it. Square's own cost is about 2.9% plus 30¢, so 3% roughly breaks even on a single month and comes out slightly ahead on a bigger payment. Leave it at 0 to absorb the cost yourself.
